Overview
Technology Services covers the cost of a Dell or Apple laptop with excellent performance to last many years. However, some users may have advanced needs. Those users may provide a GL to cover any additional costs, and specifications for upgrades, if it is necessary for the work being performed. These upgraded computers will be ordered on a regular schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the standard models being provided?
- Answer: The models being provided are chosen to meet the needs of most users. This includes Dell and Apple laptops that exceed the minimum requirements for our campus services.
Can I upgrade from the standard model?
- Answer: Yes, Technology Services will supply a standard model computer. The additional cost of an upgraded computer must be charged to Departmental or Faculty Personal Development funds.
What are the support differences for an upgraded computer?
- Answer: Acadia maintains an inventory of the standard model, but not of upgraded models. If necessary during service, TS will provide a standard model spare while your upgraded machine is being serviced. Additionally, TS covers the cost of repairs of the standard model, while the cost of service to enhancements must be paid for by the user from Department or Professional Development Funds. Example – You requested a 1TB Disk Storage, TS will cover the cost of a 512GB Disk Storage, and you would cover the difference in cost between the 2 parts.
Who will own the upgraded computer?
- Answer: All technology purchased with university funds are owned by Acadia University and maintained by Technology Services, including upgraded computers paid for from Professional Development or Research funds.
