Overview
Acadia provides several wireless networks to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors.
This article explains how to connect a Windows laptop or desktop computer to the appropriate wireless network and provides troubleshooting information for common connection issues.
Before You Begin
Before connecting, ensure that:
- Your computer has Wi-Fi enabled.
- You are within range of an Acadia wireless access point.
- You have a valid Acadia network account if connecting to Acadia or eduroam.
- Your Windows computer is running the latest available updates.
Which Wireless Network Should I Use?
Choose the network that best matches your needs.

Connect to the Acadia Network
The Acadia wireless network is the recommended network for most students, faculty, and staff.
Step 1
Select the Network or Wi-Fi icon in the Windows taskbar (lower-right corner).
Step 2
Select Acadia from the list of available wireless networks.
Click Connect.
Step 3
Enter your Acadia credentials.
Faculty and Staff
- Username: Typically the first letter of your first name followed by up to the first seven letters of your last name.
Example:
jsmith
Students
- Username: Everything before the @ in your Acadia email address.
Example:
012345c
Enter your Acadia password.
Step 4
If Windows asks whether you trust or want to continue connecting to the network, select Connect, Continue, or Yes.
Once authentication is complete, your computer will connect automatically.
Connect to eduroam
The eduroam network is recommended if you frequently visit other participating colleges or universities.
Using eduroam allows your device to connect automatically at participating institutions without requiring a new wireless setup.
Step 1
Select the Network or Wi-Fi icon.
Step 2
Select eduroam.
Click Connect.
Step 3
Sign in using:
- Your full Acadia email address
- Your Acadia password
Example:
username@acadiau.ca
Step 4
If prompted to trust the network certificate, select Connect, Continue, or Yes.
Your device should now connect to the eduroam network.
Connect to Acadia-Guest
Visitors without an Acadia account should use Acadia-Guest.
Step 1
Select the Network or Wi-Fi icon.
Step 2
Select Acadia-Guest.
Click Connect.
Step 3
A web browser should automatically open.
If it does not, open your preferred browser and attempt to visit any website.
Step 4
Enter the requested information (typically an email address).
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete registration.
You will then be connected to the Internet.
Troubleshooting
I can't see the wireless network.
Try the following:
- Verify that Wi-Fi is enabled.
- Move to another location on campus.
- Restart your computer.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
My username or password isn't accepted.
Check that:
- You are using the correct username format.
- Your password is current.
- Caps Lock is not enabled.
If you recently changed your password, you may need to remove the saved wireless profile before reconnecting.
My computer keeps asking for my password.
This usually indicates:
- An incorrect saved password.
- A recently changed password.
- A saved wireless profile that needs to be removed.
To remove a saved wireless network:
- Open Settings.
- Select Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
- Select Manage Known Networks.
- Select the wireless network.
- Choose Forget.
- Reconnect using your current credentials.
The Guest network won't open the login page.
If the browser does not automatically open:
- Open any web browser.
- Navigate to a website such as
http://neverssl.com.
- The Guest registration page should appear automatically.
I connected successfully but have no Internet access.
Try the following:
- Disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
- Restart your computer.
- Verify that you connected to the correct wireless network.
- Forget the network and reconnect.

What devices are supported?
Most wireless-enabled Windows computers supporting modern Wi-Fi standards (802.11ac, 802.11ax, and earlier compatible standards) can connect to the Acadia wireless network.
How do I stop connecting to Acadia-Guest automatically?
Open Manage Known Networks, select Acadia-Guest, and disable Connect Automatically or remove the saved network.
