What is the intake process at Accessible Learning Services?🔹 How do I sign up for accessibility support at Acadia? 🔹 What’s the process to get accommodations for my classes?

Summary

Accessible Learning Services uses a three-step intake process to help students access accommodations, funding, and academic supports—starting with a meeting, followed by documentation, and then personalized resources.

Body

If you're looking to access academic accommodations or support, Accessible Learning Services has a three-step intake process to help you get started.

✅ Step 1: Schedule an Intake Meeting

Book a meeting with our Accessibility Resource Facilitator. During this meeting, you’ll talk about:

  • Grants and funding:
    • Provincial services and equipment grants
    • Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PD)
  • Academic supports:
    • Note-taking, tutoring, and other services
  • Documentation:
    • What’s required and how to renew it
  • Course load and scholarships:
    • Opportunities for reduced course loads and related scholarships
  • Potential accommodations:
    • Based on your documentation and needs

🔒 Important: We need active and explicit permission from the student to begin the intake process. You’re welcome to bring a support person to the meeting, but you must be present.

📄 Step 2: Provide Documentation

If you haven’t already submitted your documentation, you’ll be asked to do so after your intake meeting.

  • Based on your documentation, we’ll create an accommodation letter.
  • This letter is sent to your professors at the start of each term.

🚀 Step 3: Access Resources

Explore the many supports available to help you succeed:

💡 Even if you’re not eligible for formal accommodations or don’t identify as having a disability, Acadia offers many programs to support your academic success.
