I am an Acadia student and want to take a course at another university on a Letter of Permission. What do I do? 🔹 How do I take a course at another university for credit? 🔹 What’s a Letter of Permission and how do I get one? 🔹 Can I take a summer course somewhere else and transfer it to Acadia?

If you want to take a course at another university and have it count toward your Acadia degree, you’ll need to request a Letter of Permission (LOP).

📝 Steps to follow

  1. Download and complete the Letter of Permission Request Form:
👉 LOP Request Form (Word Doc)

  2. Submit the completed form to the Registrar’s Officeregistrar@acadiau.ca

  3. Make sure your student account balance is clear:

    • You must have a zero balance or have made payment arrangements with Student Accounts before your request can be processed.

📌 What the LOP does

  • It tells the host institution that Acadia has approved you to take a course there.
  • It ensures the course will be recognized for transfer credit once completed.

📘 Helpful Definitions

  • Letter of Permission (LOP): An official document from Acadia that allows you to take a course at another university for credit.
  • Host institution: The university where you plan to take the course.
  • Transfer credit: Credit earned at another institution that counts toward your Acadia degree.

📝 Special Notes

  • Always check with your academic advisor before choosing a course at another institution to make sure it fits your program.
  • Once you complete the course, you’ll need to submit an official transcript to Acadia for the credit to be applied.
