What health and dental plans does ASU provide? 🔹 What kind of health insurance does Acadia offer? 🔹 Am I automatically signed up for a dental plan? 🔹 How do I opt out of the student health plan?

The Acadia Students’ Union (ASU) provides health and dental plans for students. These plans are designed to help you with expenses that aren't covered by your provincial health care.

  • Health Plan: Covers things like prescription drugs, vision care, and visits to specialists like physiotherapists or psychologists.

  • Dental Plan: Provides coverage for basic services like check-ups, cleanings, and fillings.

Full-time students are automatically enrolled in these plans and the fee is added to your student account. If you already have comparable coverage (for example, through a parent's plan), you can opt out during the designated period at the start of the semester.

For full details on your coverage, how to make a claim, or to learn about the opt-out process, visit the ASU Support Hub page on the ASU website.

Helpful Definitions đź’ˇ

  • Provincial Health Care: This is the basic health coverage provided by your home province in Canada (like Nova Scotia Health). It covers things like doctor visits and hospital stays, but not everything. The ASU plans provide "extended" coverage on top of this.

  • Opt Out: This means you can choose not to be a part of the plan and get a refund for the fee, as long as you can prove you have other health coverage.

  • ASU Support Hub: This is the central online resource for all ASU support services, including your health and dental plans.
