I'm an Incoming Exchange Student — How Do I Register for Courses at Acadia? 🔹 How do I sign up for classes as an exchange student? 🔹 Why can’t I register for third-year courses? 🔹 Who do I contact to get help with course registration at Acadia?

✅ What you need to know:

Welcome to Acadia University! 🎉 As an incoming exchange student, you are considered to have third-year standing, but your Self-Service portal will show you as a first-year student (since you have no previous Acadia credits). This can make it difficult to register for upper-level courses with prerequisites.

Here’s how to get help:

📝 How to Register:

  • Email your list of desired courses to:
    📧 Jennifer Gerritsjennifer.gerrits@acadiau.ca
  • Include:
    • Course name and number
    • Term (Fall or Winter)
    • Section (if known)

✅ Example:
ENGL-1213-FA01
ENGL-1213 Fall Term, Section 01

⏳ Important Notes:

  • Some courses may require faculty permission, which can take a few days.
  • You may be asked to provide course syllabi for review.
  • Submit your course selections as early as possible to avoid delays.

🚫 Course Restrictions:

While exchange students are welcome in most courses, there are some exceptions:

  • Education (BEd): This is a graduate-level program, so courses are not available to undergraduate exchange students.
  • Kinesiology: This is a closed program. However, the Director may approve registration in certain courses if space is available.
    📧 Contact: kinesiology@acadiau.ca

📘 Helpful definitions:

  • Self-Service portal: The online system used to register for courses at Acadia.
  • Prerequisite: A course you must complete before enrolling in a more advanced course.
