After you file a complaint with the Equity Services office (also known as the Human Rights and Equity Office), the university follows a confidential, trauma-informed process to address your concerns.
Here’s what typically happens:

📝 Intake and Assessment – The office reviews your complaint and may contact you for clarification or additional details

🧑💼 Support and Guidance – You’ll be offered confidential support and guidance throughout the process

🫱 Informal Resolution or Mediation – If appropriate, the office may suggest informal resolution or mediation between parties

🔍 Formal Investigation – If informal options aren’t suitable, a formal investigation may be initiated, conducted impartially and respectfully

📄 Outcome and Follow-Up – You’ll be informed of the findings and any actions taken, with continued support available if needed
Throughout the process, your privacy is protected, and you’re never required to proceed with a formal complaint if you’re not ready. The goal is to resolve the issue in a way that’s affirming, fair, and respectful of your experience.
