Install the PaperCut Client on Windows or Mac
Overview
The PaperCut Client displays printing notifications and lets authorized users charge print jobs to shared departmental or GL accounts.
At Acadia, the client is required for faculty and staff and optional for students.
Installing the PaperCut Client does not install a printer. Secure-Print or your departmental printer must also be installed separately.
Before you begin
-
Connect to Acadia’s campus network or Acadia VPN.
-
Have your Acadia username and password ready.
-
You may need administrator credentials for your computer.
If PaperCut is already running, you may not need to reinstall it. Check the Windows notification area or Mac menu bar for its icon.
Instructions
Windows
-
Download the PaperCut Client for Windows.
-
Open your Downloads folder.
-
Right-click pc-client-win.zip and select Extract All.
-
Select Extract. Windows opens a folder containing the extracted files.
-
In that folder, double-click client-local-install.exe to start the installation.
-
Follow the installation prompts. If Windows requests administrator credentials, enter credentials for an administrator on your computer or contact the Service Desk.
-
Launch the PaperCut Client if it does not open automatically. Sign in with your Acadia account if prompted.
-
Check the notification area near the clock for the PaperCut icon. You may need to select the up arrow to see hidden icons.
Important: Run the installer from the extracted folder, rather than from inside the ZIP file. Opening pc-client.exe runs the client but does not perform the local installation.
Mac
1. Open the installation folder
-
Open Finder.
-
Select Go → Connect to Server, or press Command + K.
-
Enter smb://papercut.acadiau.ca/pcclient.
-
Select Connect.
-
If prompted, select Registered User and enter your Acadia username and password. If a domain is required, use acadia\username.
-
Once connected, Finder displays the shared folder’s contents. Open the mac folder.
2. Copy and open the application
-
Find the PCClient application. Its full filename is PCClient.app, although Finder may hide the extension.
-
Drag PCClient into Applications in the Finder sidebar.
-
If prompted to authorize the copy, enter your Mac administrator credentials.
-
Open your Mac’s Applications folder.
-
Double-click PCClient.
-
If PaperCut asks you to sign in, enter your Acadia username and password.
A small PaperCut P icon should appear in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
3. Start PaperCut automatically when you sign in
-
Open System Settings.
-
Select General → Login Items & Extensions. On some macOS versions, this is called Login Items.
-
Under Open at Login, select +.
-
Select PCClient from Applications.
-
Select Open to add it.
Check that it works
-
Confirm that the PaperCut Client is running.
-
Print a small test document to an installed Acadia printer.
-
If an account-selection window appears, choose the appropriate account and confirm the job.
Available accounts and prompts depend on your permissions and Acadia’s printing configuration.
