How to set up a wireless connection - Chromebook/Android

Connect a Chromebook or Android Device to the Acadia Wi-Fi Network

Overview

This article explains how to connect a Chromebook or Android device to the Acadia wireless network.

Because different manufacturers and versions of Android use slightly different menus, the exact names and locations of settings may vary. The information below provides the recommended configuration for most devices.

Before You Begin

Before connecting, ensure that:

  • You are within range of the Acadia wireless network.
  • You know your Acadia username and password.
  • Wi-Fi is enabled on your device.

Note: If you recently changed your Acadia password, you may need to update the saved password on your device before it can reconnect successfully.

Connect to the Acadia Wi-Fi Network

On a Chromebook

  1. Select the Wi-Fi or Network icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
  2. Turn Wi-Fi on if it is not already enabled.
  3. Select the Acadia wireless network.

On an Android Device

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Network & Internet, Connections, or Wi-Fi (the name varies by device).
  3. Turn Wi-Fi on if necessary.
  4. Select the Acadia wireless network.

Enter the Following Network Settings

When prompted, configure the connection using these settings:

Setting Value
Security EAP
EAP Method PEAP
Phase 2 Authentication MSCHAPv2
CA Certificate Don't Validate or Use System Certificates
Online Certificate Status Do Not Verify (if available)
Domain acadiau.ca
Identity Your Acadia username
Password Your Acadia password

If prompted, enable Save Identity and Password or Remember Credentials.

MAC Address Setting (Android)

Some Android devices include a Privacy, MAC Address, or MAC Address Type setting.

If available, select:

  • Use Device MAC, or
  • Phone MAC

This allows your device to authenticate correctly with the Acadia wireless network.

Connect

After entering the required settings:

  1. Select Connect.
  2. Wait a few moments while your device authenticates.
  3. Once connected, the Wi-Fi icon will indicate that you are successfully connected to the network.

Troubleshooting

My device won't connect.

Verify that:

  • Your Acadia username and password are entered correctly.
  • Wi-Fi is enabled.
  • You selected the Acadia network.
  • The EAP settings match those listed above.

My password was recently changed.

If you recently changed your Acadia password:

  1. Forget the Acadia wireless network.
  2. Reconnect to the network.
  3. Enter your new password.

I don't see the "Acadia" network.

Try the following:

  • Confirm that Wi-Fi is enabled.
  • Move to another location on campus.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
  • Restart your device.

My device keeps asking for my password.

This usually indicates one of the following:

  • An incorrect password
  • An expired password
  • An incorrect EAP configuration
  • A previously saved wireless profile

Forget the network and reconnect using the settings listed in this article.

I don't see all of the settings listed.

Not every Chromebook or Android device displays every configuration option.

If a setting is not available, simply continue using the remaining settings shown on your device.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Save your credentials so you do not need to enter them each time you connect.
  • Update your saved Wi-Fi password whenever you change your Acadia password.
  • Keep your Chromebook or Android device updated with the latest operating system and security updates.
  • If you experience persistent connection issues, try restarting your device before contacting support.
