Office 365 email settings

Acadia email settings for other mail apps

Overview

Use this article when adding your Acadia email account to a mail application other than Microsoft Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook is the recommended option. Other applications must support Microsoft 365 work or school accounts and modern authentication (OAuth2). Compatibility also depends on Acadia’s security requirements.

You can access your email without installing an app through Outlook on the web.

Before you begin

You will need:

  • An active Acadia email account and password.

  • An internet connection.

  • Access to your multifactor authentication (MFA) method.

  • An up-to-date mail application.

Instructions

1. Add a Microsoft 365 account

  1. Open your mail app’s Settings or Accounts menu.

  2. Select Add Account.

  3. Choose Microsoft 365 or Office 365. If neither appears, choose Microsoft Exchange, provided the app supports modern authentication for Microsoft 365.

  4. Enter your full Acadia email address:

Account type Sign-in email address
Faculty and staff, including retirees firstname.lastname@acadiau.ca
Students, including alumni and graduate students username@acadiau.ca—for example, 1234567b@acadiau.ca
  1. Follow the Microsoft or Acadia sign-in prompts.

  2. Complete MFA if requested.

  3. If offered, choose whether to sync email, calendars, and contacts.

Note: Menus and available features vary by application. Some apps support email but do not support calendar or contact synchronization.

2. If additional settings are requested

Automatic setup should normally find the settings. For a compatible Exchange connection, the app may request:

Setting Value
Username or sign-in address Your full Acadia email address
Exchange server outlook.office365.com
Authentication Microsoft 365 sign-in, OAuth2, or Modern Authentication
Domain Normally leave blank unless Technology Services provides app-specific instructions

These are Exchange connection settings, not a complete IMAP, POP, or SMTP configuration.

If the app requires a domain, does not offer Microsoft sign-in, or cannot complete setup, contact the Service Desk rather than guessing additional settings.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to try
Your password is repeatedly rejected Confirm you used your full Acadia email address. Test signing in to Outlook on the web. If web access works, the issue may be the app’s configuration or compatibility.
The app only offers basic username/password authentication Use an app that supports modern authentication, such as Microsoft Outlook.
A message says the app is blocked or needs administrator approval Contact the Service Desk with the application name and exact message.
You cannot complete MFA Contact the Service Desk for assistance with your authentication methods.
Email works, but calendars or contacts are missing Check the app’s synchronization options. Those features may not be supported by its connection method.

Outcome

A compatible mail app can access your Acadia mailbox. If the app cannot meet the sign-in requirements, use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook on the web.
