Overview

Office 365 licenses and access are different for active students and alumni.  In October, following your graduation, Technology Services will transition you from a student license to an alumni license.  You will have received an email indicating your cut-off date. Please refer to the email for the exact date to ensure you do not lose access to your data.  

With an Alumni license, you will retain access to Email, Calendar, and Contacts.

However, you will lose access to the following services: Microsoft 365 Apps (Desktop installs of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, InfoPath and Publisher); Office Online (Online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote); OneDrive; SharePoint; Teams; Office 365 Planner; Sway; Forms.

What does this mean for you?

Email. You retain access to your email. You can still access it via office365.acadiau.ca.  

Files and and desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  To prevent the loss of data and functionality, there are several steps you can to take:

• Access to the desktop version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc

• Access to online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint: 

If you would prefer online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and prefer not to purchase desktop versions, Microsoft offers Free Office Online.  You receive 5 free GB of OneDrive cloud storage and access to the same versions of Online Office while you were at Acadia. Go to Office https://products.office.com/en-ca/office-online/ for more information.

• Access to OneDrive files will cease to be accessible:
  Prior to the transition, you should download a copy of all of your files from your Acadia OneDrive for Business account. Copying can be done in two ways:

  • (i) manually copy your files from office365.acadiau.ca; or

  • (ii) install the OneDrive client on your computer and allow it to perform a final sync. For more information on how to get OneDrive see Get OneDrive on your device
