VALT User Training Guide

Overview

VALT is a secure video management platform used to record, manage, review, and share video content.

This guide introduces the basic features of VALT, including:

Accessing VALT

VALT can be accessed using a modern web browser, including:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari

To access VALT:

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Go to the VALT login page: https://valt.acadiau.ca/login
  3. Enter your VALT credentials.
  4. Select Log In.

Home Screen Overview

The VALT home screen provides access to the system's main features.

Depending on your permissions, you may see options such as:

Rooms

View and access rooms configured for observation and recording.

Recent Recordings

View and manage recordings that have recently been created.

Upcoming Schedules

View and manage scheduled recordings.

Reports and Announcements

View system reports and important system announcements.

The options available to you may vary depending on your VALT account permissions.

Recording a Video

To begin recording:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate room.
  2. Select Start Recording.

Depending on the room and your permissions, you may be able to manage the following recording options.

Pause and Resume

Temporarily pause a recording and resume it when you are ready.

Markers

Add markers to identify important points within a recording.

Markers can make it easier to locate specific moments when reviewing the recording later.

Sharing

Share access to the recording with specific users or groups, where permitted.

Always consider the sensitivity of the recording before sharing it.

Retention Settings

Set how long the recording should be retained, where this option is available.

Retention settings determine how long the recording remains available in VALT.

When you are finished recording, select Stop Recording.

Reviewing Recordings

To review a recording:

  1. Locate the recording you want to review.
  2. Select the recording to open the video player.
  3. Use the video controls to play, pause, and navigate through the recording.

You may also be able to use markers to quickly navigate to important points in the recording.

Managing a Recording

Depending on your permissions, you may be able to modify information associated with a recording, including:

  • Recording details
  • Sharing permissions
  • Retention settings
  • Authors or other associated information

Available options may vary depending on your role and the permissions assigned to your account.

Downloading a Recording

Where permitted, recordings may be downloaded in different formats, including:

  • MP4 – Video
  • MP3 – Audio only

Before downloading or sharing a recording, ensure that you have permission to do so and that the recording does not contain confidential or sensitive information that should not be distributed.

 

Troubleshooting

I cannot access VALT

Verify that:

  • You are using the correct VALT website.
  • You are entering the correct credentials.
  • You are using a supported, up-to-date web browser.

If you still cannot access VALT, contact the Technology Service Desk.

I cannot see a room

Your VALT account may not have permission to access the room. Contact the appropriate VALT administrator or Technology Service Desk for assistance.

I cannot see a recording

Check that you are looking in the correct location and that you have permission to view the recording.

The recording may also have been deleted or automatically removed based on its retention settings.

I cannot share or download a recording

Sharing and downloading options depend on your permissions and the settings associated with the recording.

If the option is unavailable, contact the appropriate VALT administrator.

Important

VALT recordings may contain personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

Before recording, sharing, or downloading video:

  • Ensure that recording is appropriate and authorized.
  • Use appropriate sharing permissions.
  • Avoid sharing recordings more broadly than necessary.
  • Follow applicable Acadia policies and procedures regarding privacy, security, and the retention of information.

If you are unsure whether a recording should be created, shared, or retained, contact the appropriate department or Technology Services for guidance.
