How to set up Eduroam

Overview

Eduroam (education roaming) is a WiFi (wireless) service.  It provides the same access, use and security for students, staff, and faculty whether at Acadia or at a member global institution. Users can use Acadia's email and password to access this WiFi around the world.  

Note: Eduroam should be set up prior to any travel.

Acadia Clients - Configure a Non-Cellular Device (Laptop)

Select the appropriate Operating System for instructions on how to set up Wi-Fi on your laptop/desktop.

 

Acadia Client - Configure a Cellular Device (Smart Phone/Tablet)

Apple iOS

You can either use the link or scan the QR code to access Eduroam Configuration details. 

  1. Use the Safari browser and navigate to Eduroam CAT (Note: Other browsers may not function correctly)
    or
    Scan the following QR code (scanning instructions for iOS can be found here).
     
  2. Click on the large button that reads
  3. Click on the download link and allow your device to download the installer/profile.
    • On some versions of iOS, the process to install the eduroam profile may automatically begin after the download completes.
    • On other versions of iOS, you must navigate to the Settings App -> General -> Profile.
      1. Select the eduroam profile and click “Install” at the top right corner. You may have to enter your phone’s security PIN.
  4. Follow the prompts to enter your Acadia email address and password.
  5. If you have previously connected to the Acadia wireless network, you may want to navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi.  Select Eduroam to connect to and then long press to "Forget" the Acadia wireless.
 

Android

You can either use the link or scan the QR code to access Eduroam Configuration details. 

Download and install the Eduroam CAT app from the Google Play store
 

  1. Open the app. The application will request permission to access the device location. If allowed, the app may automatically find the Acadia configuration; or
  2. Scan the QR code. Install a QR Code Scanner from the Google Play Store if required.

  1. If Acadia does not appear, turn on the Manual Search switch at the bottom of the screen. Enter acadia in the search bar.
  2. Choose the Acadia University configuration.
    • The app will request permission to access files. Allow this request or the procedure will fail.
  3. Click on the Install button on the next screen which reads Configuration File Summary at the top, then click Yes to install the profile.
  4. On the next page, enter your Acadia email address and password and click the Install button.
    • The page should then display some status information including Profile Installed.
    • You may now exit the Eduroam CAT tool.
  5. If you have previously connected to the Acadia wireless network, you may want to navigate to Settings -> Connections -> Wif-Fi.  Long press to "Forget" the  Acadia wireless.

If you experience issues while attempting to access eduroam wireless service at another institution, contact Acadia University’s Technology Services – Service Desk for assistance. 

Visitor Setup 

  • You need to be setup for Eduroam at your own institution prior to visiting Acadia University.
  • Our implementation of eduroam utilizes WPA2/AES.
  • Please contact your home institution to obtain setup instructions particular to your institution.
  • Note that the Acadia Technology Services Computing Policy applies to guest users.

Restrictions of eduroam

  • Any network restrictions are at the discretion of the institution providing the service.
  • There is no guarantee that eduroam will provide the same access to resources as the home or visited institution’s WiFi network.
